Approach End of Runway 32R

Aircraft mistake cement drainage ditch for hold short bars and unintentionally enter runway environment.

The photo above shows the approach end of runway 32R as you approach it on taxiway J. Note the red runway sign at the left indicating that this is runway 32R. The hold bars (red arrow) are to the right of the sign but don't run at a 90 degree angle to the taxiway centerline. The taxiway bends to the right to lead to the run-up area and the east ramp.

Another view still looking from taxiway J, but at a slightly different angle which better shows the hold bars and the ditch area.

The approach end of runway 32R as seen from the run-up area. The hold bars (red arrow) are visible where the pavement color changes from dark to light. (Note the red runway sign to the right of and in line with the hold bars.) The drainage ditch (blue arrow) beyond the hold bars is frequently mistaken for the hold bars themselves. The drainage ditch is actually in the runway environment, however.
