FAA Issues Environmental Finding for Instrument Landing
System at North Las Vegas Airport

The installation and operation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the North Las Vegas Airport in Nevada would pose no significant environmental impacts, the Federal Aviation Administration said today.

The FAA has issued a “Finding of No Significant Impact” and record of decision for the proposed ILS, which would be installed on Runway 12L. The finding was based on the results of an environmental assessment prepared earlier this year.

An Instrument Landing System is a radio navigation aid that provides course and altitude guidance to pilots as they approach an airport. Currently, the only public airport in Southern Nevada with an ILS is McCarran International in Las Vegas.

The finding indicates the North Las Vegas project would be consistent with environmental policies and objectives in the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and won’t significantly affect the quality of the environment.
