LOS
ANGELES – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s final environmental
report on the proposed master plan for Los Angeles International Airport will
be available for public review no later than January 21.
The
agency’s final environmental impact statement (EIS) on the airport assesses the
potential impact of the master plan’s four improvement alternatives, as well as
the potential impact of a decision not to make improvements at the
airport. The FAA published the draft
environmental impact statement on the Los Angeles plan in 2001, and a
supplement to the draft environmental impact statement in 2003.
The
final EIS includes a separate document – Volume A – that contains recent
information and analysis. FAA will
accept comments on the information presented in Volume A and its appendixes
until 5 p.m. Pacific time on February 22.
Comments should be sent to David Kessler, AWP-611, Federal Aviation
Administration, Box 92007, Los Angeles, CA 90009-2007.
The
FAA also will release its final general conformity determination (GCD) for
Alternative D – one of the airport master plan’s four proposals. The conformity determination assesses the
extent to which Alternative D complies with the federal Clean Air Act.
There
is a required 30-day comment period on the EIS, and the FAA will make no
decision on the master plan until this period ends. Following that period, the FAA will review the comments submitted
before issuing a decision.
Copies
of the final EIS and GCD will be available for public review during normal
business hours at many libraries throughout Los Angeles County, as well as
libraries in Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties.
Copies
