The Federal Aviation Administration, Western-Pacific Region, has proposed to assess a $50,000 civil penalty against Hsin Huey Enterprise, CO. LTD, of Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., for allegedly violating Department of Transportation hazardous materials regulations.

The FAA alleges that Hsin Huey Enterprise, improperly offered, or caused to offer via Seven Ocean Air Service, Inc., a shipment of 1000 glass mercury thermometers containing approximately 300g of mercury to American Airlines. The shipment, which consisted of two brown fiberboard boxes, had no hazardous material markings or labels on the exterior.

The shipment was discovered in Honolulu, Hawaii when an airline employee noticed potential dangerous goods listed on the packing list.

Hsin Huey Enterprise offered the hazardous materials for transportation when they were not properly labeled, marked, described, document or certified as required under federal regulations.

The company has 30 days from the receipt of the FAA notice to submit a reply to the agency. This announcement is made in accordance with the FAA’s practice of releasing information to the public on newly issued enforcement action involving penalties of $50,000 or more.
